Good morning Reception, There has been lots of amazing work on Purple Mash. Well done! Here are Aimee and Paolo's work from Owl Babies. Kelis has been practising writing her name. Here is your learning from today.
Use your other high frequency words or letter sounds to write your own word to finish the sentence. e.g I am big. I am fiv (five). It is fine if you only write the sounds you can hear and it is not spelled exactly as it should be. This is how we learn to write. Say the sentence a few times to help you remember it. Copy the first word I, leave a finger space, copy the second word am, leave a finger space, then write the next word. Robot the word you want to write e.g f - i - v Write down each sound you hear. Don't forget to end the sentence with a full stop.
Phonics: Today's phonic session is a recap of the phonemes you have learned this week. Watch this Youtube video for today's lesson. Now for the reading. Practise reading these words. Writing: Keep practising your handwriting. Follow the direction of the arrows. Use your magic writing finger at first, don't stop writing until you finish the pattern or letter. Next, try writing it on paper. The letters belong to the Curly Caterpillar family that q belongs to. Literacy: Watch the 'Owl Babies' Story Map part 3 video from yesterday. Keep practising say out the story along with the actions.
Now it's your turn to play the comparing numbers game. You don't need to print the cards below. You could make your own - draw pictures of up to 5 (or 10 objects) on pieces of paper or you could take the 1-5 (or up to 10) cards out of a set of playing cards and play. Remember your comparing how many. Who has more/less? Try to talk in full sentences. I have more because 5 is more than 1. I have less because 3 is less than 4. As it's Friday and you have worked hard this week, do something you enjoy on your own or with your family - play a game, play with your toys, do some cooking, draw a picture, listen to some music.
Hello again Reception,
I know it is hard not being at school, but try to keep doing the work on this blog. Well done Violet! I was so impressed by your writing - I can see you have been working very hard. It has been lovely seeing all your work on Purple Mash especially the work linked to 'Owl Babies'. Don't forget you can save your work in your tray and I can see what you have been doing. Here is some from Marcell, Poppi-Ann and Violet.
Here is your learning for today:
You could use some of your other high frequency words to finish the sentence e.g I like my dog. Or you could use your phonemes to write something you like. e.g I like jam. As always, don't forget a capital letter for the start of the sentence, finger spaces and a full stop at the end. You can write more than one sentence if you want to.
Phonics: The phoneme for today is qu
Watch this Youtube video for today's phoneme.
Now for the reading.
Practise reading these words.
Writing: Keep practising your handwriting. Follow the direction of the arrows. Use your magic writing finger at first, don't stop writing until you finish the pattern or letter. Next, try writing it on paper. We learn to write q and u together because it is a digraph - 2 letters that make one sound.
Literacy: Today I am going to read you the end of the story 'Owl Babies'. Then I will teach you the final part of the story map. See the videos below.
Now it's your turn to play the throwing game - You don't need to use beanbags or a hoop. You can use anything as a target to throw at like a bucket, tray or a mat. You could use small soft toys or pairs of socks rolled into a ball to throw. Don't forget to record your score each time. Can you write the digit for your score? Did you score more or less than last time? How many landed on/inside the target? How many landed outside? How many altogether?
R.E. - This week we begin our topic called 'Celebrating'. Look at the picture below. What is happening? What can you see? Point to these things in the picture - the people (we call this the Parish Family), the priest, altar servers, crucifix (Jesus body on the cross), benches, hymn books, stained glass windows, notice board, candles.
Why has the Parish Family come to church? What is the priest going to celebrate? (Mass) What other celebrations take place in church? (Baptism, Christmas, wedding etc)
Good morning Reception,
I hope you are keeping well. Well done to all of you who have logged on to Purple Mash. I could see you have been working hard because I can see all the work you have saved into your tray! It was fantastic! Thank you Paolo for sharing your work! Your writing has improved so much. Well done! Here is your learning for today.

Today I am going to read you the middle part of the story and teach you the next part of the story map. See the videos below.
Maths: What day is it today? What day was it yesterday? What day will it be tomorrow?
Today can you draw pictures to represent each of the digits up to 5? Don't forget the digit 0. What can you do to show 0? Remember, we use 0 to show when there is nothing. Look at the pictures below - which numbers do they show? Which picture shows 0? You can try going up to 10. What about 20?

Follow the direction of the arrows. Use your magic writing finger at first, don't stop writing until you finish the pattern or letter. Next, try writing it on paper. Literacy - Today, listen and read along to the story of 'Owl Babies'. Who are the characters in the story? Where does the story take place? When does the story happen? Why do they wake up at night? Why do you think the baby owls flapped and danced and bounced when they saw their mother? Can you find the words below in the story? Maths: What day is it today? What day was it yesterday? What day will it be tomorrow? Can you remember when we sang 5 currant buns at school? We got cakes and coins and some of you took turns to buy currant buns and take them away. The cakes got less but the coins got more. Can you remember why that was? Watch the video from White Rose Maths - It's the Alive in 5! Week 1 Session 1 video https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/early-years/alive-in-5-week-1/ Once you have finished watching the video, have a go at home acting out the 5 current buns song. You can use anything to represent the buns and buttons or coins to be the pennies. It has been so cold over the past week. That's because it is the season of Winter. When we go out, we put our coats, hats, scarves and gloves on. When you go out, practise getting dressed all by yourself. When you put your coat on, practise doing the zip. Can you put your gloves on by yourself? It can be tricky, but as Marissa always says, 'Practise makes perfect!' We can't wait to see how much you can do for yourself when we see each other again. Good morning Reception, Well done, you have got to the end of your first week of home learning. You are doing very well. Here is your learning for today:
Phonics: The phoneme for today is x Watch this Youtube video for today's phoneme. Now for the reading. Practise reading these words. Writing: Practise your handwriting. Once you have finished watching the video, look at the pictures on the sheet below and talk about which activities happen during the day and which happen during the night. Why are there two toothbrushes? A good thing to do to help strengthen your fingers and hands for writing is using playdough. Here is a simple playdough recipe for you to make at home. https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/playdough-recipe At school, the children are great at helping to make the playdough that we use. They really enjoy it too. Once you've made it, have fun exploring it. There is also something called dough disco which are specific exercises to strengthen finger muscles. See below for a video or search 'dough disco' on Youtube for lots more ideas. Good morning again Reception, Well done Alfie for your fantastic Maths and Handwriting work. I can see you are working so hard. Here is your learning for today:
Phonics: The phoneme for today is w Watch this Youtube video for today's phoneme. Now for the reading. Practise reading these words. Writing : Keep practising your handwriting. Follow the direction of the arrows. Use your magic writing finger at first, don't stop writing until you finish the pattern or letter. Next, try writing it on paper. Maths - What day is it today? What day will it be tomorrow? Watch the story - Peace at Last by Jill Murphy The story starts - 'The hour is late.' When is the story taking place? How do you know it is night time? (The moon is in the sky. It is dark.) What are Mr, Mrs and Baby Bear doing? (They are going to bed.) What else do you do at night time? Do you eat dinner? Have a bath? Brush your teeth? Read a bedtime story? Think about the activities you drew yesterday. Which activities do you do during the day? Which ones happen at night? Can you think of anything else you do during the day that you don't do at night. There are some things that you do during the day and at night time, like brush your teeth. Take a piece of paper and draw a line down the middle - Write day on one side and night on the other. Draw a picture on each side of the paper to show something you do during the day and something you do at night. Did you know that not everybody or everything goes to bed at night? Some people work at night and lots of animals sleep during the day and wake up when we are going to bed at night time. Animals that are awake at night are called nocturnal. Can you find out the names of any nocturnal animals or jobs that people do at night? Hello again Reception, Hope you are all keeping well. Today is a special day - it is the Feast of the Epiphany. That is when the Wise Men travelled to visit Jesus after He was born. Here is your learning for today:
Phonics: The phoneme for today is v Watch this Youtube video for today's phoneme. Now it's time for some reading. Practise reading the words along with Rachel. Writing: Practise writing your name or write some high frequency words or a sentence. Practise writing the two graphemes - j and v. See below. Use your magic writing finger - start at the black dot. Don't take your finger off until the end. Once you are confident, use a pencil and write the letters on paper. Maths - Practise your counting from 0 to 20 and back again. What day is it today? What day will it be tomorrow? Times of the Day - Here are five pictures of Little Wolf showing what he does at different times of the day. Have a good look at each one. What do you see in the picture? What is happening? Could you describe it to someone else? Think about when they might happen through the day. What do you think Little Wolf does first? Next? After that? Then? Finally? In case you need a little help - Little Wolf eats lunch at school. Little Wolf has a bath. Little Wolf goes to school. Little Wolf has his breakfast. Little Wolf goes to bed. What about you? Do you do the same as Little Wolf in the same order? Is there anything else that you do during the day? Draw pictures of up to five things that you do during the day in the order that you do them. Describe to someone in your house what is happening in your pictures. What times of the day do you do them? Can you write down the numbers to show the times? e.g a 7 for 7 o'clock To finish off today, we remember the special gift of Jesus that God gave to us at Christmas. Say this prayer with your family. A Special Gift Lord Jesus, you received special gifts from the Three Wise Men. We know that you are our King. Help us to always remember what a special gift you are for us. Amen Hello Reception, Happy New Year! This isn't quite the start to Spring term that any of us thought, but I hope that you are all staying safe at home. I am sorry that we can't be together just yet but I hope to see you soon. Each day I will post the learning that I would like you to do here on this blog. The day and date will be at the top. The activities are designed to be short (no more than 15 minutes) and you can do them throughout the day, like we would at school. If you are enjoying them you can spend a bit longer but if you are finding them tricky you can do a little bit of the activity and go back to it later. If you have any problems or questions, please email info@st-agnes.towerhamlets.sch.uk. If you want to share anything you have learned that would be great too! Mrs Stapleton Here are your activities for today:
Phonics: The sound for today is j Watch this Youtube video for today's sound. Now it's time for some reading. Watch Rachel again and practise reading the words along with her. Writing: Practise writing your name. Don't forget you only need a capital letter for the first letter. All the other letters should be lower case. If you can already write your name without help try writing some of your high frequency words. Can you write a sentence and read it to someone who lives with you? I can see the dog. I like to run. My mum and I went to get the dog. Maths - Practise counting - start at 0 and count all the way to 20. Our number of the week is 6 Do you know anyone who has a door number 6? What about someone who is 6 years old? Can you show 6 on your fingers? How many different ways can you make six using your fingers? If you have a dice - find the face that has six dots. Can you find six objects to count? You could use spoons, pegs, forks, leaves - anything you can find. Sort the objects into 2 groups - 5 and 1, 4 and 2, 3 and 3. Put them altogether and count them - you still have 6. Put them in a straight line and count them. Put them in a circle and count them. Spread them all out and count them. Which way was easy to count? Which was hardest? Could you say there were six before you counted them? Watch this Numberblocks episode for the number six https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b08pgksd/numberblocks-series-2-six Practise the days of the week song that we sing in class. See below for the song on Youtube to remind you. What day is it today? What day will it be tomorrow? Have you got a calendar at home - you could look each day to see what day it is and what number the day is (the date). |
