Maybe you could draw this in. Tell someone at home all about your fantasy setting. Describe it as thoroughly as possible. Which of these descriptions is better? Can you tell me why you think so? My fantasy setting has an ocean and a forest. It is good. OR My fantasy setting has a blue ocean with waves that sparkle as they crash. There is also a dense forest with unicorns running wild. Today, I would like you to write down some of the descriptive phrases you came up with while discussing your fantasy setting, Use this to practise what you are going to write tomorrow. Maths: To add ones using number bonds. This is a continuation from yesterday's maths lesson. Watch and join in with the video lesson, then complete the worksheet. whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-1/spring-week-2-number-addition-and-subtraction-within-20/ Science: To distinguish between an object and the material it is made from Today I would like you to go on a clothes hunt. We are going to be looking at the material that is used to make the clothes we wear. Do you think the same material is used to make our summer clothes and our winter clothes? Why/Why not? Try and find these items of clothing, look at the label inside and find out what material or materials are used to make them. Can you add any other items of clothing to the list? Happy learning Year 1, Miss Kennedy x Good Morning Year 1!
I am so impressed to see you all working so hard at home, I love seeing the work you send in, it makes me feel like we are still all together.
Remember, we now have own own Year 1 email address, so please send your work to this from now on. Year1@st-agnes.towerhamlets.sch.uk Here are your activities to complete today: Reading: Today, I would like you to read the story, 'Everyone Got Wet', again from start to finish and then complete 'Activity 2'. Phonics: We have nearly finished with Phase 4. There are only 4 more lessons after today's so make sure you are super confident with all the sounds shown. If you ever need more practise, please revisit the lessons you need to or you could also go to the Phonics Play website: www.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources Here you can choose 'Buried Treasure', 'Dragon's Den', or 'Picnic on Pluto' and choose the sounds you would like to practise, or go to Phase 4 and revise all of Phase 4. Here is today's Phonics lesson: English: To develop understanding through imagining and exploring ideas Now we have begun to think about the story we are going to be looking at. Listen to the story here and enjoy...
Think about these questions and discuss your answers with an adult:
Today you are going to get creative! Can you create your own fantasy setting? Take a moment to think about what you would like this to include. If you could go anywhere and see anything, where would you go and what would you see? Here are some images to help start the thought process:
Use any materials you can find at home. Magazines are great!
You can cut and stick pictures that you like down on a piece of paper and draw images too! Try to fill a piece of paper. Tomorrow you are going to write a description of your fantasy setting. I would love to see what you come up with, so please email a picture of your work to me! Maths: To add ones using number bonds. Follow along with the video and then attempt the first part of the worksheet (complete questions 1-4). As you know the video will tell you when to have a go at each question. You will complete the worksheet tomorrow. In your emails containing this work, please may you tell me how you found it, was it easy or were some bits more difficult that others? whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-1/spring-week-2-number-addition-and-subtraction-within-20/ RE: The next topic in RE is special people. Today can you create a list of special people in your community? Think about what jobs they do? What makes these jobs and people special? Have a wonderful day Year 1. I am really looking forward to seeing the work you complete today. Miss Kennedy x Good Morning Year 1!I hope you are all getting on well at home and managing to stay motivated to learn. When you all send your work over to me, it makes me so happy that I can respond to you directly - just like I would in school! Please send the work you do to: Year1@st-agnes.towerhamlets.sch.uk If you send your work over to that, it will go straight into me!! I can't wait to see more of all of your hard work. Here is your learning for today: Reading: Yesterday you read most of the story 'Everyone got wet', and made a prediction about what you think could happen next. This is such a good skill to learn, so well done you. Go back and find the story again: www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/find-a-book/library-page/ Today we are going to see if the predictions you made are correct. Re-read what you wrote yesterday, then read the story all the way through. Were you correct? Let me know!! Today I would like you to have a go at the 'Play Activity 1'. You can click on this, it's just above the book. This is a sequencing activity, which is another core skill to practise when reading a book. Phonics: Continue with Phase 4, today you will complete lesson 25. English: To describe a setting using the suffixes -er and -est. Here is the next image from the story. The book is called 'Where the Wild Things Are', have you read it before? Looking at the picture, discuss these questions:
Today we are going to use words which end in -er and -est. These are called suffixes they are the endings attached to words to slightly change their meaning. Can you describe three trees like I have done here? The tall tree twists and turns. The taller tree is as tall as my house. The tallest tree touches the sky. Have a go yourself and send in your work. You could draw a picture of your three trees to go alongside your writing. As an extra challenge, can you use the word 'and' in all three sentences? Maths: To add by counting on. Watch the video, join in with the lesson then complete the worksheet. If you cannot print this off or edit it online, you can write your answers on a piece of paper and send a picture of that work over instead. Lots of you have been doing this and it's great! whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-1/spring-week-2-number-addition-and-subtraction-within-20/ There is an extra addition task set on PurpleMash for you to complete. This is available to do for a whole week, so attempt it when you feel comfortable with the task! Science: To discuss materials and their uses. Today you are going to think about which material is most appropriate for objects. Think about these questions: (remember to speak in full sentences when you discuss) Would you make a chair out of wool? Why/why not? Could you make a t-shirt out of glass? Why/why not? Would you build a house out of fabric? Why/why not? Have a go at the task on Purple Mash. You need to read the sentence and choose the best material for that use. As an extra task, could you make up your own questions for me, like the ones I have written above? Write them on a piece of paper and ask your parent/carer to send over an image and I will get back to you. Happy Learning! Miss Kennedy Hello Year 1!Welcome back to your home learning blog! I would like to start this week off by congratulating all of you who worked so hard last week! I was so very impressed with your commitment to your learning at home and I am so excited to see what you achieve over the next weeks. We now have a Year 1 email address, so please send your work to that instead. The email is: Year1@st-agnes.towerhamlets.sch.uk As promised, here are some of your acrostic poems using the word 'Fantasy'. Can you spot yours? I think they are all absolutely brilliant!! Let's get started on this weeks learning...
Before you open the book, let's spend some time today thinking about the title.
Read up to page 23 only and answer the questions below. Can you write your answers down and send them to me! Why do you think no water came out of the hose? What do you think will happen next? Tomorrow we will read the book again, all the way to the end to see if your prediction is correct! There are play activities too, try to resist the temptation to do these today as I will instruct you when to do these over the next couple of days. Phonics: Let's continue with Phase 4. I have loved seeing you progress with phonics too in the pictures you have been sending through! If you are introduced to a sound you don't know - pause the video and make up your own rhyme for it, just like we do in school! I would love to see some of these. English: To draw inferences based on what is being said and done.
Maths: To add by counting on. We are moving on from 'Place Value' and onto 'Addition and Subtraction' this week. Here is the link for the lessons, today's is called 'Add by Counting On Activity'. whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-1/spring-week-2-number-addition-and-subtraction-within-20/ You have an activity to have a go at today: find a dice and make some number cards on paper. Turn the cards over, roll the dice and add the two numbers together by counting on - just like they did during the lesson! Have lots of fun!! PE: Today we would be having a PE lesson in the afternoon. Go to the website imoves found here: imoves.com You will need to register, but its all for free! The activity that I would like you to move around with is called: Power of Yet - Growth Mindset Try and copy the dance moves and you could try and sing along too! It took me a couple of tries to follow along without getting muddled, but I managed in the end. Let me know how you get on!! I hope you have had a wonderful day Year 1. Keep up all your hard work and I'll be back in touch tomorrow! Miss Kennedy x Good morning Year 1!You have reached the end of your first week of home learning and I must say I am incredibly proud of you all. I cannot wait to see what you achieve over the coming weeks. Keep sending in your work to the address: info@st-agnes.towerhamlets.sch.uk I love seeing your work, so thank you parents/carers for spending time doing this too. By doing the work every day you will continue to progress just like you were in the Autumn Term. Here are your activities for today: Reading: Keep reading for at least 15 minutes every day. Today I would also like you to do a follow up activity for the book you have read this week. Could you draw your favourite part from the story and write a sentence to describe it? Use this sentence starter: My favourite part of the book... Can you use the word 'and' in your sentence too? How about the word 'because'? Send in a picture so I can see what you have been reading and what your favourite parts are!! Phonics: We are continuing with Phase 4. I have really enjoyed seeing the work you are doing in Phonics too in the emails you have been sending. English: Our word of the week for next week is ‘fantasy’. Can you find out what it means? Can you create an acrostic poem for the word ‘FANTASY’. Today I'm not going to give you any words to help you, I'd like to see what you can come up with at home. I have been so amazed by your other acrostic poems this week, I don't think you need my help anyway! Remember to send your work in via the email address at the top of this blog post! I will share some of these on Monday's blog! Maths: Today you are ordering numbers. Watch the video then have a go at the questions. You can use blocks or objects at home or draw pictures if you need some visual help answering any of the questions. whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-1/week-12-number-place-value-within-20/ Afternoon activities: Here is also a wonderful website that I have found that shares fun stories that you can listen and read along with. If you click on the light bulb icon there are questions to think about and discuss with an adult. The story I would like you to read is called 'Oh No, George!' www.booktrust.org.uk/books-and-reading/have-some-fun/storybooks-and-games/oh-no-george/ As you read along with the story, think about what you think George will do and why. How do his feeling change throughout the story? Use the rest of the afternoon to complete any of the tasks you may have missed this week. If you are having trouble accessing any of the home learning, please contact school!! Consider the following points too:
Keep up all your hard work Year 1 - I am already excited to see what you achieve next week! Have a wonderful weekend. Miss Kennedy x Welcome back Year 1!I hope you have been enjoying the tasks I have asked you to do at home. I am so impressed with the work I have seen so far, you have shown a great deal of motivation towards your home learning. It is really important to try your best even though we are not together inside our classroom. If you are struggling to access any of the home learning, please contact the school and we can try and help as best as we can. Here is your learning for today: Reading: Keep reading every day, this should be for 15 minutes. Remember this may not always be reading a full book cover to cover. It may be looking at the front cover and making predictions about what you think the story will be about. You may read a couple of pages and think about what might happen next and how you know this. Once you have read the book all the way through, it is a good idea to reflect on what you have read. Ask yourself questions such as:
Here are the links to the two websites you can use at home if you do not have access to more books at home: www.myon.co.uk/login/ www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/find-a-book/library-page/?view=image&query=&type=book&age_group=Age+4-7&level=&level_select=&book_type=&series=# Phonics: Here is the next lesson within Phase 4. Make sure you are confident with all the sounds and the words in each lesson. If you need to recap the previous lesson do this before moving on!! English: Can you remember what an acrostic poem is? Here are two poems about Winter. Read them both and decide which is an acrostic poem. Which poem do you prefer? Can you tell me why? Today your English work is on Purple Mash. Your task is to create an acrostic poem about 'HUMANS'. I will be able to mark this and you will be able to see the comments I leave. I have written two for you to have a look at. See if you can do your own, it may be useful to write words or phrases that start with the initial letter first, then choose your favourite ones to create your poem. Maths: Watch and join in with the lesson on the White Rose website. Today's is called 'Order groups of objects'. whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-1/week-12-number-place-value-within-20/ Then have a go at the worksheet: Don't forget to complete the additional challenge on Purple Mash. Some of you have already completed this and I am so impressed!! Science: On Purple Mash today there is an activity on Materials. Here you need to complete the sentences to describe the materials and objects you are shown in the pictures. There are words for you to choose from on the side. For example, if you are shown a plastic chair the sentences could read: The chair is made of plastic. It is hard. You could extend this activity by finding objects in your house and describing them in the same format. Write these down on a piece of paper and take a picture and send it in. I would love to see more of your hard work at home. This is a very difficult time, if you need anything explaining more or advice on learning I am happy to help as best as I can, please contact me via the office at: info@st-agnes.towerhamlets.sch.uk Have a great day Year 1 and parents/carers too! Miss Kennedy x Good morning Year 1!I hope you all managed to access the necessary learning yesterday and enjoyed completing your work in a different format at home. I am so blown away with the work that some of you sent in, you have dived straight back into your learning and I could not be more proud! Here is the email address to send your work to and to use to contact me if you have any questions or queries. info@st-agnes.towerhamlets.sch.uk Here are your lessons for today: Reading: Just like in school, it would be great if you could spend about 15 minutes in the morning reading to someone at home. Read books you have at home or use MyOn or the Oxford Owl website. Here are the weblinks for both: www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/find-a-book/library-page/?view=image&query=&type=book&age_group=Age+4-7&level=&level_select=&book_type=&series=# You will need to create and register a free account on this website to access lots of e-books for you to read www.myon.co.uk/login/index.html Phonics: You will be continuing with the phase 4 sounds in lesson 21 on the YouTube channel. English: For you english lesson today, watch this short clip about acrostic poems. Can you make your own acrostic poem for the word 'WINTER'? Here are some words and phrases that I have thought of that you may want to use too. See if you can challenge yourself by thinking of some of your own words and phrases too! Maths: Today you will be comparing numbers. Watch the video on White Rose: whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-1/week-12-number-place-value-within-20/ Then complete the worksheet: (if you do not have access to a printer, on a piece of paper draw/write/copy the questions and complete) Remember there is the extra challenge on Purple Mash for you to complete this week too! RE: Here is a display in school that shows the Epiphany. At home today, can you discuss with those you live with, what happened at Epiphany? Who can you see in the picture? Who arrived? Where did they arrive? What did they bring with them? It would be great if you could write your about the discussion you have had. It is important to keep practising your handwriting at every opportunity whilst you are at home. Have a great day Year 1, and I will write again to you tomorrow. Miss Kennedy x HAPPY NEW YEAR!I hope you all had a lovely break over Christmas and had some well deserved rest. |
