Today the Reception children who are in school used the Cafod interactive tool from this week's R.E. part of the blog to design their own part of God's wonderful world.        Hello Reception for the last time this year. This is your final week of home learning. We look forward to seeing you back in September in YEAR 1! How exciting! Enjoy your holidays. Have fun but do try to do some reading and counting! The answers to last week's Summer Spot the Difference were - the colour of the girl's swimming costume, the colour of the man's apron, one less cloud in the sky, one less sunflower, the colour of the flowers on the bush, the colour of the drink on the table, the ladybird on the wall has disappeared and there are flowers on the grass in front of the paddling pool. After you have logged in, click on the 'Library' section. Then click 'Browse' at the top. Click on 'Genres'. Then click the 'Picture books' section. Go for a walk and try and find something that begins with every letter of the alphabet. Think about the sound the letters make. Tuesday - Listen/read the story again. p13 and 14. Animal noises. Can you name the animals in the pictures. Now try reading the words on p13. Match the sounds to the right animal. Which sound did Max hear first? Second? Third? Now look at p14. Can you match the animal sounds to the animal? Wednesday - Look at p15. Say the rhyme with an adult. Take the rhyming challenge - can you say words that rhyme with the animals at the bottom of the page. Thursday - p17 and 18. Look at the animals on p17. Can you say where they live? On p18, read the animal names. Use your sounds to help you. Draw your favourite animal and say why you like it. Friday - Read the tiger fact file on p21. Now choose your own favourite animal and make a fact file about it. Use the template on p22 to help you organise it. Summer holidays - If you get up to any adventures on your summer holiday, write a postcard (like the one on p23) to someone you know. Phonics - We have completed all the Phase 2 and Phase 3 Phonic sounds so this week will be a revision and consolidation week. Watch the YouTube video to help you practise. Maths Monday -This week the number of the week is: 15 What can you say about 15? e.g It is 1 more than 14. It is 1 less than 16. Do you know anyone with a door number that is 15? Can you count 15 objects? What different groups can you make using 15 things? e.g 14 and 1, 13 and 2, 12 and 3, 11 and 4 etc Can you read the word fifteen? If you go out on a walk, can you find 15 anywhere? Find 10 objects that could represent people. If you have Lego people, perfect! Otherwise you can use buttons or anything else that will work as counters. Keep these safe as you will need them again tomorrow. Place 10 objects onto the windows of the bus. Use the sentences - First there were 10 people on the bus. Then 4 people got off. Now there are 6 people on the bus. Keep practising - Try starting with different numbers such as 9 or 7 and use different numbers of people getting off the bus.  Wednesday - Subtraction as partitioning You need the bus and objects that you had yesterday. You also need some paper to draw part-part-whole model diagrams on to show what you are doing like you did last week. See the one below for ideas. Start with the story - First there were 9 people on the bus. (Write 9 in the whole circle at the top). Then 4 people got off the bus. (Draw 4 objects in the first part circle). Now there are ....... (How many objects will you draw in the final part circle to show how many people are still on the bus? 5) Repeat with different starting numbers and different parts being taken away. Draw the part-part-whole model to match your story.  Thursday - Subtraction as take away Play Four in A Row. See the instructions and game board below. Roll 2 dice. If you haven't got dice use this interactive dice. https://nrich.maths.org/6717 Click on the purple cog to change to dots instead of numbers. Take the smaller number away from the larger number. Use objects if you want to help you. Cover the answer with a counter. The first person to cover four numbers in a row is the winner.  Friday - Subtraction as difference Watch this Numberblocks episode about difference in Maths. https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0bn57fv/numberblocks-series-3-whats-the-difference Roll a dice and build a tower using that number of blocks. Roll the dice again. Build another tower of blocks using that number of blocks. Put the two towers next to each other. What's the difference between the two towers? Practise saying The difference between 4 and 6 is 2. Challenge: Now that you are coming to the end of Reception class and moving to Year 1 in September, talk to your grown up about what you enjoyed doing in Reception this year. It is sad that many of you didn't get to finish your year at school but there were many things that you did while you were at school. What do you remember about your time in Reception? What did you enjoy? What was your favourite activity? What can you do now that you couldn't do in Nursery? Was there anything you didn't like?

Look at the 'Recommended for you' section and choose a book to read. You can choose to have the book read to you. Reading: This week we are looking at a new adventure involving Max the dog. Look at the questions on p7. Answer them. Remember to speak in full sentences. Use the sentence starters under each question to help you. Wednesday - Do you know what a bandana is? Maybe you have one at home? What happened to Max's bandana at the end of the story? It changed colour. How did it change? Look at p8. Design a new bandana for Max. Look at the patterns on the bottom of the page to help you. Thursday - Exploring words p9. Have a go at describing the tennis ball. Add a word each time. Now have a go at describing the toy mammoth. This is a grey mammoth. This is a grey, hairy mammoth. This is a grey, hairy mammoth with white tusks. Now choose one of your own toys. Draw and label a picture of it and play add a word challenge to describe it. Don't forget to talk in full sentences. Friday - Play 'Guess Who' on p10. Look at the animals on p10. Use clues to describe one of the animals. Can you guess which animal is being described? Now look at the animals on p14. Play the game again using these animal pictures. Counting - Roll a dice. Whichever number your dice lands on, bounce a ball that many times. Eg if you roll a 6, bounce the ball 6 times. If you haven't got a dice, use this interactive one from Nrich https://nrich.maths.org/6717 If you click on the purple cog in the top right hand corner you can change to a 0-9 dice. Keep a tally of how many times you have bounced the ball altogether. R.E. - Have a look in your kitchen cupboards for any products that are Fairtrade. You will know they are Fairtrade because it has this logo on it. Fairtrade means that farmers from around the world get paid a fair amount for the things they grow.

If you go out on a walk, can you find 14 anywhere? Tuesday - Look at the picture below. What Maths can you see? How many trains? How many passengers on the train? How many cars waiting at the barrier? How many flowers on the bushes? How many wheels on the train? What shape are the windows on the station? How many trees on the left? How many trees on the right? How many trees altogether?  Wednesday - Combining two groups to find a total Look at the pictures of the trains below with the part-whole models that we looked at last week. How many passengers are in the carriages altogether? Have a go at drawing your own part-whole model and complete it. As you draw it, say 4 and 1 make 5 altogether, 3 and 6 make 9 altogether. Draw your own carriages and write the part-whole model to go along with it.
Thursday - Exploring addition by adding on Watch this video from Oak National Academy which explains how to add on. https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/exploring-addition-by-adding-on Click start lesson, watch the video. At the end of the video click next and it will take you to some activity slides. Practise adding two sets of objects by adding on - count the first group of objects, keep that number in your head, point to and add on each one in the next group of objects. Friday - Exploring addition by adding on Race to 20 - Use the number track below or draw your own number track to 20. You will need one track for every person who is playing.  Take turns to roll the dice. If you roll a 1-6, collect that number of objects to cover the track. (Buttons would work well as counters for this.) Every time you roll, add on that number of counters to see how far along the track you get. Keep that first number in your head then add on the number you have rolled.
