This week why don’t you try to draw your favourite part of the story. Can you talk about why you like it? Don’t forget to count every day – Can you say all the number names in order to 20? Can you count backwards from 10? Sing 5 little ducks or 5 little speckled frogs. 5 little speckled frogs, sat on a speckled log, Eating some most delicious bugs – yum, yum! Draw, stick, take pictures of anything in your house to do with that number e.g draw 6 dots on a dice, collect 10 lego bricks, take a picture of 8 leaves. Show the number on your fingers. Can you write each number in your book? Challenge: Can you say how many objects there are (up to 5) without counting them? Can you say what is 1 more or 1 less than each number up to 10? Choose two numbers, make them with objects and say which number is more or less. Make some number cards - can you order the numbers from 1-10? Count backwards from 10. Challenge Feely Bag Create your own feely bag, such as an old rucksack, an empty tissue box or cereal box (please no plastic bags) with items in from around the house. Use a bag that you cannot see through. This is a great way for children to explore their senses. Encourage your child to think about what the object feels like and use describing words for the objects. Are they bumpy, bubbly, rough or furry? Children can develop a wide vocabulary by thinking about different texture words. If they are finding it difficult to come up with their own words, ask them questions such as - is it hard or soft? Is it rough or smooth? Try to use different types of objects. Challenge: Play a matching game afterwards. Can you find two objects that are bumpy or two that are smooth? Hello Reception class. Can you act out the story? Are there any words you recognise? Talk about what happened. Who are the characters? How were they feeling? Why did they act as they did? Do some counting every day – sing some counting songs like 1,2,3,4,5 Once I caught a fish alive or 10 green bottles, count socks and pair them up, knives and forks at the table, buttons, lego bricks, anything you can find. Can you say all the number names in order to 10? Do some exercise: Do 10 jumps, run on the spot for 10 seconds, touch your toes 10 times, hop on one leg 10 times, then hop on the other 10 times.
