Home Learning Week beginning 8/6/20

8/6/2020

Reading: This week choose an ebook each day from https://home.oxfordowl.co.uk/books/free-ebooks/.  It is free to register for parents.  Browse by age to try and have a go at reading a book yourself or read a book with an adult.  Which words do you recognise?  Can you talk about what happened in the story?
Counting: Practise counting forwards and backwards using this number track.  Cover a number.  Count up to that number, can you say what comes next?

R.E.: June is the month of the Sacred Heart.  Change your altar to the colour red.  Decorate it with hearts.  Think about how much Jesus loves us.  Say this prayer with your family.

                                    Dear Jesus,
                                           Thank you for loving me.
                                                           Amen

Phonics - Practise a sound each day.  Watch the YouTube video to help you practise.  Use your letterjoin login to practise writing your letters.
https://www.letterjoin.co.uk/index.html

Phonics - Monday
Practise making the 'y' sound like in yellow.  Can you find anything in your house that starts with 'y'? Practise writing the letter.  Start at the top, curve to the right, up to the top, down and curve round to the left.

Phonics - Tuesday
Practise making the 'z' sound as in zebra.  Can you find anything in your house that starts with 'z'?
Practise writing the letter.  Start at the top, slide to the right, diagonal line down to the left, slide to the right.

Phonics - Wednesday
Practise making the 'qu' sound as in queen.  Can you find anything in your house that starts with 'qu'?
Practise writing the letter.  Make a 'c' shape, go up, straight back down and flick to the right.  Can you remember how to write 'u'?

Phonics - Thursday

What words can you make with the sounds you have learned so far?
s, a, t, p, i, n, m, d, g, o, c, k, ck, e, u, r, h, b, f, l, j, v, w, x, y, z, qu
van, box, wig, job, win, fox, jet, vet, yak, quit
Use your sounds to say them.  If you have magnetic letters, make them.  Can you write them?  Which words rhyme?

Phonics - Friday
Practise writing your name, forming the letters correctly.  Remember only the first letter is a capital letter.  Why do we use a capital letter?  It's a name.  All names start with a capital letter.  Can you say the sound that each letter makes?  If you can write your first name, can you also learn to write your surname?

Maths:
Every day practise writing your numbers from 0 - 10.  Remember to always start at the top.

This week make a weather chart - it could look something like this:
Picture
Each day record what the weather is like on the chart.  Draw a sun if it's sunny, a cloud if it's cloudy, rain if it's rainy.  Discuss the days of the week, say them in order, link to yesterday, today and tomorrow, such as: What day is it today? What is the weather like? What day was it yesterday?  What was the weather like yesterday?  What day will it be tomorrow? What do you think the weather will be like tomorrow?  At the end of the week, count how many sunny, rainy, windy, cloudy days there have been.  Challenge:  Could we have 8 cloudy days in one week?
Challenge:
The next time it rains, go out puddle jumping with a grown-up. Put on your wellies and jump in the puddles. What words would you use to describe the puddles? What sounds can you hear when you jump in them?
