Goblinology: The ultimate guide to Goblins.
 by Kathryn Pennington

Welcome, children, squizzles and wimbles! My name is Dr Frizzle and I own this spectacular shop. It is a shop full of curious creatures and magical mementoes. I am particularly proud of the books that I have in my shop. Let’s have a look at the bookshelf – watch out for the spider webs! Ahh… here is one of my favourite ones… Goblinology: The Ultimate Guide to Goblins. This is a really useful book as you never know when you are going to find a goblin but, when you do, you must know what to do with it. Come with me now and let's read the book together. Who knows, you may get a visit from a goblin later on this week!

RE
The world is a special place God asks us to care of it

Catholic Social Teaching:
A Key Principle – Stewardship of creation.
The earth and all life on it is God’s creation. We are called to take care of it because it is a holy gift from God and the only place we can live. When we make bad or thoughtless use of the earth’s resources, many people suffer. When we make poor choices about how we treat other living things (people, animals, plants) we cause life to be less than God intends. Making wise choices about the care of God’s creation is called good stewardship.
  • Ask the question of each statement below : Is this good stewardship?

Statements:

1. Jon gave some of his birthday pocket money to CAFOD.
2. Jill bought a new pair of shoes, wore them for a week and then decided that she didn’t want to wear them anymore.
3. Kim leaves the tap on when cleaning his teeth, but he has really quick showers.
4. Joe went to London to go on a march to protect the world against Climate Change. Joe 5.travelled to London by car (the journey took 4 hours).
6. Dad fills the kettle full to the top when he is making a cup of tea for himself.
7. In Miss Jones’ class the children write on both sides of the page in their exercise books.
8 .When the Banks family moved house they took their curtains with them and altered them to make them fit the new windows.
9. Each week the children take turns to pick up litter from the school playground.
10. The school council persuaded their teachers to drink Fairtrade tea and coffee.
11. The local supermarket gives out free plastic bags.
12. The water pump in Kalisowe, Zambia is powered by solar panels.
13. In Rwanda plastic bags have been banned.
14. The gold mining company in Honduras have allowed deadly chemicals used to clean the gold to leak into the water supply and make local people very ill.
15. At a plastic-bottle recycling centre in East Timor they are looking at ways to recycle and reuse.  It only takes one plastic cup to make a pencil and twenty-five plastic bottles can be reused to make a fleece jacket.
16. The president of a country uses his aid budget to buy limousines for the politicians.
17. A big office block leaves its lights on all night for security reasons, wasting huge amounts of energy.

Black Lives Matter!
In today's lesson, we visit a key topic of Black Lives Matter given the recent case of George Floyd. The lesson is around creating hope for the future – a future that is not based on the colour of someone's skin but the content of their character. A national push for an Oak Tree of Hope will be shared, where we all share a hope using #Iamhopefulfor and attach it to a tree as a symbol of the diversity of our society.

I want you to take time to think about how Jesus loves us.
We need to become more like him and love our neighbours, family and families.
We need to remind ourselves that kindness towards others is very precious.
We need to remember to help others when they are in need.
Maybe helping your family tidy up the house or offering to help cook dinner.

In today's lesson, the Prime Minister has contracted Covid-19 through shaking hands during his official work. We must step up as his Deputy Prime Minister to lead the country by way of a formal public letter of guidance.
The lesson works towards creating leaders-where we must think about how to provide the most relevant information in order that it influences people to act responsibly, collectively, and effectively. This guidance as a leader will help reduce the risk of Cold-19 transmission, thereby saving lives!

Last week, I had the opportunity to have a chat with most of you at home. It was lovely to hear your news and know that you are all ok and missing school terribly. During my chats, I noticed a reoccurring theme. Most of you had indulged in lots of cooking and baking. Isabelle C had made pancakes and found that honey and sugar, as a topping, was very tasty. Taigan made a 'Jaffa cake' styled cake which is mum then decorated. Tommy had a barbecue with tasty burgers. Adam had a teddy bear party where all of the teddies had little outfits on. He had music and a lot of fun with his family. Debrias went on a very long bike ride with his family all around London. Nimatu created lots of art at home with her family. Isabelle H took part in baking with her family and had a video call birthday party with her family. Karol has been preparing for his birthday, which is coming up soon. Amaris has spent time playing with her little brother. Alex has been busy keeping active on his bike. Ava has been doing lots of gardening with her family. Paula made donuts with her mum.
She sent us the recipe so that we can try and make them at home.
I most certainly will try!
Lot of you have taken the opportunity to spend time communicating with your family and friends via video calling and messaging.

May - The Month of Mary
As it is the month of Mary, I would like you read this scripture about when the angel Gabriel told Mary that she was going to have a baby. This is called the Annunciation.
Task : Write a prayer to Mary.

Luke 1:26-38

Good News TranslationThe Birth of Jesus Is Announced26 In the sixth month of Elizabeth's pregnancy God sent the angel Gabriel to a town in Galilee named Nazareth. 27 He had a message for a young woman promised in marriage to a man named Joseph, who was a descendant of King David. Her name was Mary. 28 The angel came to her and said, “Peace be with you! The Lord is with you and has greatly blessed you!”
29 Mary was deeply troubled by the angel's message, and she wondered what his words meant. 30 The angel said to her, “Don't be afraid, Mary; God has been gracious to you. 31 You will become pregnant and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High God. The Lord God will make him a king, as his ancestor David was, 33 and he will be the king of the descendants of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end!”
34 Mary said to the angel, “I am a virgin. How, then, can this be?”
35 The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and God's power will rest upon you. For this reason the holy child will be called the Son of God. 36 Remember your relative Elizabeth. It is said that she cannot have children, but she herself is now six months pregnant, even though she is very old. 37 For there is nothing that God cannot do.”
38 “I am the Lord's servant,” said Mary; “may it happen to me as you have said.” And the angel left her.

You might want to ask the following:

What is your favourite food?
What is your favourite colour?
If you could choose would you rather have a dog or a cat?
What is your best memory?

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

Design Technology

In our topic 'Terrific Technology', we will be exploring communication.
We have already done some research into the history of communication. We know that there are lots of different methods and machines to use in order to communicate with others.
Today I would like you to research into Morse Code which was invented by the inventor Samuel Morse.
I want you to think about the following questions when researching;
  • How does a telegraph work?
  • When was the machine invented and why?
I have included some useful websites and videos that may help when researching
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORIDAmGf_yQ  - Youtube (Invention of Morse Code The Dr. Dinocs Show)

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zq4dq6f   - Bitesize
 https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbbc/watch/morse-code   - CBBC
Picture
Picture
Picture
Picture
I would like you to design your own simple telegraph (Morse code machine).
I want you to explore different types of switches you might want to use to make it easier to tap codes.
Think about how you would send the message.

Once you have designed your machine, I want you to think about how you could modify your machine so that it would work for a person with hearing difficulties. (If I give you a clue it would be the answer! Think about this carefully)

I would love to see your designs.
Remember you can take photos and email them to the school email address. Remember to put my name in the subject box.

May - The Month of Mary
Mary, The Mother of Jesus.

If you have created a prayer area, I would like you to spend time changing the altar to reflect Mary. The cloth for this month is blue.
You could find some coloured paper, tea towel or a blue t-shirt.
I would like you to lay a rosary down. If you do not have one then it would nice to make one. You can draw one and cut it out or use pasta and string,
Be creative!
Once your prayer area is ready, I would like you to write out the Hail Mary nicely and place it on your altar.
Spend some time reflecting and say the Hail Mary.

For this R.E session, I would like you to think about who Mary is to us.
I would like you to do some research and write up the information you have found in your own words.
The link below will help you gather information
https://www.britannica.com/biography/Mary-mother-of-Jesus

In school, each class would choose a title for Mary and decorate their altar to reflect.
I would like you to choose with your family a title that means a lot to you.
Below are a few examples that you may want to research.
You can then draw your depiction of the title of Mary and add it to your altar.

Mary, Queen of the World
Mary, Queen of Peace
Mary, Queen of Nature
Mary, Star of the Sea
Mary, Our Lady of Lourdes
Mary, Queen of the Angels
Mary, Queen of Heaven

Mary, Queen of the Universe.

English - The True Story of the Three Little Pigs

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vB07RfntTvw  - The True Story of 3 Little Pigs
Plan a short story
This half term in english, we would be focussing on fairytales and reading 'The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs by A.Wolf.
In this session, I would like you to listen to the story (see youtube link)  and then box up the main ideas of the story. Last week, you spent time looking at boxing up the story 'The King of Fishes'. Please use that as a guide.
When boxing up this story, you will be looking at the key features.
Main character and characters
Opening: Who, what, when, where
Build up and Problem: What is the problem in this story?
Resolution: How was it solved?
Ending: What has happened at the end?

Read or listen to the story again and take those things into consideration. Jot down some notes of each part.
You are going to plan your own adaptation of a fairytale.
I would like you to change it to make it more interesting.
Goldilocks and the Three bears from Little Bears point of view
Little Red Riding Hood from the wolfs point of view
Snow White from a Dwarfs point of view
Or you could change the characters of 'The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs' and have a different scenario (maybe it's three wolves and a bad pig).

Plan your story.
Next week Thursday you will be writing your story,
