Thursday 7/1/21

7/1/2021

Good morning again Reception,

Well done Alfie for your fantastic Maths and Handwriting work.  I can see you are working so hard.

Here is your learning for today:
  • Reading: What is your favourite story?  Why do you like it?  Today, share your favourite story with someome in your family.  One of my favourite stories is 'Handa's Surprise'.  Have you read it?  You can watch and listen to the story on Youtube - see below.  After you have listened to the story think about these questions - What fruit does Handa put into her basket?  Is there any fruit you haven't heard of before?  What is your favourite fruit?  Think about the animals in the story?  Can you remember which animal took the guava? What happened at the end of the story?
  • How are you getting on with your counting?  Can you count to 20?  If you are going for a walk maybe you could count the leaves you see.
  • Keep practising writing your name and/or high frequency words.
  • It's really important to keep talking (and listening of course!)  Talk about something you have done today - something you've watched, learned, seen or done.  Talk in full sentences.  Today I learned....  It was really good when...
Phonics:  The phoneme for today is         w
Watch this Youtube video for today's phoneme.
Now for the reading.
Practise reading these words.
Writing : Keep practising your handwriting.  Follow the direction of the arrows.  Use your magic writing finger at first, don't stop writing until you finish the pattern or letter.  Next, try writing it on paper.

Maths - What day is it today?  What day will it be tomorrow?
Watch the story - Peace at Last by Jill Murphy
The story starts - 'The hour is late.'  When is the story taking place?  How do you know it is night time?  (The moon is in the sky. It is dark.)  What are Mr, Mrs and Baby Bear doing? (They are going to bed.)  What else do you do at night time?  Do you eat dinner?  Have a bath? Brush your teeth?  Read a bedtime story?
Think about the activities you drew yesterday.  Which activities do you do during the day?  Which ones happen at night?  Can you think of anything else you do during the day that you don't do at night.  There are some things that you do during the day and at night time, like brush your teeth.
Take a piece of paper and draw a line down the middle - Write day on one side and night on the other.  Draw a picture on each side of the paper to show something you do during the day and something you do at night.
Did you know that not everybody or everything goes to bed at night?  Some people work at night and lots of animals sleep during the day and wake up when we are going to bed at night time.  Animals that are awake at night are called nocturnal.  Can you find out the names of any nocturnal animals or jobs that people do at night?
