Phonics:  Today's phonics lesson is a review of this week's sounds.  You will need some paper and something to write with.  

Writing: Today we are going to practise the writing we have done this week.  See below for the sounds to practise writing.  Remember to make the sounds as you write them.  Can you remember any of the words for each sound?  

Literacy:  Today you are going to retell 'The Gruffalo' story.  Below are some picture cards to help remind you of the order of the story.  You could also go back and watch me reading the story on the videos from Monday and Wednesday.  Remember to talk in full sentences about each picture.  

See the activity below after watching the story 'Jasper's Beanstalk'.  You don't need to print it.  Can you say the days of the week in the right order?  Draw what Jasper did on each day of the week in the story.  

• Reading:  Listen to today's story by scanning the QR code or clinking on the link.  It is called 'The Bumblebear'.​

• Counting: Look for shapes around your house.  Write down a tally mark (a straight line) for every one you see.  How many did you find of each shape?  Look for circles, squares, triangles and rectangles.

Phonics:  Today's phoneme is the digraph 'oa'.  See the video below and don't forget your paper and something to write with. 

Writing:  You are going to do some writing linked to the sound 'oa'.  Write the letters that make the ‘oa’ sound.  Now write the words with 'oa' in them - goat, boat.  Then write the sentence -  A goat on a boat.

Maths:  What day was it yesterday?  What day is it today?  What day is it tomorrow?

Have a go at comparing different lengths.  See the activity below.  Don't worry if you can't make the playdough snakes, you could use different lengths of ribbon or string.  Use household objects to measure such as pasta, paper clips or pegs.  Don't forget to talk about what you notice using the key words.  

R.E.  This week we start our new topic 'Gathering'.  
The parish family gathers together for Sunday Mass.  Look at the picture below and think about the questions.  (We have seen this picture before.)  The parish family have gathered in Church for Mass and they are singing together.  

1. What do you see in the picture? (people, priest, altar servers, crucifix, hymn books, benches)
2. Who are the people in the picture? (the parish/Church family)
3. What are the Church family doing together? (singing a gather song)
4. What is happening? (Priest and altar servers processing in)

Keep talking:  

Literacy:  Can you remember all the characters from the story The Gruffalo?  Today draw a picture of each character.  Draw the Gruffalo, mouse, fox, owl and snake.  Cut them out and stick them on lolly sticks or pencils to make puppets.  Keep the puppets somewhere safe until tomorrow.  

See the activity below.  Time yourself for one minute doing different activities such as how many times you can write your name in one minute.  Think about which activities were quick and which were longer.    

In the Gruffalo, mouse made up the imaginary creature, the Gruffalo to scare the fox, owl and snake.  Make up your own imaginary creature.  Think about what it looks like - eyes, teeth, claws, body, prickles etc.  Draw your own imaginary creature using pencils, crayons, paint or Purple Mash.  Make up a name for your creature.  Tell a story involving your new character.  

• Reading: Enjoy listening to today's story called 'Barry the Fish with Fingers'.  Scan the code or copy and paste the link to watch.

• Counting:  Log in to Purple Mash, click on the pin at the top called Superheroes and click on the Maths folder.  Complete both Maths activities called 'Counting' and 'Ordering Numbers'. 

• Writing - see below the phonics video for today's writing linked to the sound we are learning. 
• Do some exercise: Take a look at the Fun Fitness Bingo card.  Choose the activities you would like to have a go at.  You could close your eyes and point to one to pick.  Do a few in one go or stagger them throughout the day.  

​Keep talking:  Since you have been learning at home, think about something you have become really good at.  Tell someone in your house.  I am really good at....

Phonics:  Today's sound is called a trigraph. It is three letters that make one sound.  The sound is 'igh'.  Don't forget your paper and something to write with.  

Writing:  You are going to do some writing linked to the sound 'igh'.  Write the letters that make the ‘igh’ sound.  Now write the word with 'igh' in it - light.  Then write the sentence -  The light is on. Don't forget a capital letter to start the sentence, finger spaces between each word and a full stop at the end.  Read the sentence once you have written it.

• Reading:  Here is another story for you to listen to.  It's called 'Beegu' and is read by the author Alexis Deacon.  At the end of the story you can also draw along with Alexis to draw Beegu.  Scan the barcode or copy and paste the link to watch.

• Counting:  Choose a number on the number track below.  Say the number that is one more and one less than the number you have chosen.  You can use the number track to help you.  You could also get that number of objects and add one more or take one away to help you.  Count the number you have made.  Now try with different numbers.

Look at the dominoes on the sheet below.  How many dots does the domino have on each side?  How many dots are there altogether?  Talk about what you can see.  There are 3 and 5 dots.  There are 8 dots altogether.  

Where an animal lives is called its habitat.  The animals in the Gruffalo story live in a woodland habitat.  Have a look at the pictures below to see which habitat the different woodland animals live in.  
​Draw a picture of a woodland habitat and draw some of the animals and where they live.  You could use  paper and pencils or you could log on to Purple Mash and go into 2Paint a Picture which is in the outside area of Mini mash.  Just click to go through the door and click on the children who are painting.

• Counting:  Can you find all the numbers from 0 to 20 when you are out for a walk?  Try to find them in order.  You could take a photo of each number as you find it.  
• Writing: Use your sounds to write these simple words (cot, rat, man, fish).  Look at the pictures below to see which words you are going to write.  Each time, look at the picture, say the word e.g fish, say each sound in the word f - i - sh  then write each of the sounds and say them as you write them f - i - sh, finally say the word again - fish.  Remember there will be no finger spaces between each letter because you are writing one word.  There should be no capital letters. 

• You can write a sentence about a picture after you have written the word.  e.g A cot is a bed.  Use your high frequency words and sounds like you have been doing over the last few weeks.  Don't forget a capital letter to start the sentence, finger spaces and a full stop to finish.
• Do some exercise: Start by running on the spot. A grown-up will shout out different commands e.g. ‘faster’ or ‘slower’. Listen to the command and change your speed. Next try shouting ‘up’, and when you hear it, jump up high. When you hear the word ‘down’, bend down and try to touch the floor. 
• Keep talking: Do you think being a kid or an adult is most fun?  Why?  I think being a ... is most fun because.....

​Writing: This is our last 'pen disco'.  I hope you have enjoyed it.  Practise writing the patterns while listening to music that you like. You need paper or card and something to write with.  See the video for today's pattern.  There is also a picture of the finished patterns to help you.   

​Literacy:  Practise your reading.  Today's activity is the same as yesterdays.  Choose which picture matches the sentence underneath.  First look at both pictures.  Talk about what is in each one.  Look at the sentence.  Are there any words you know (high frequency words)? 
Point to each word and say the word as you read it.  Say each sound in the word for the words you don't know. Decide which picture matches the sentence you have read.  

​Look at the picture below.  Think carefully about the questions.  We count the objects to find how many there are altogether. Can you find objects in your house to count how many altogether?  e.g There are 2 boys and 3 girls.  There are 5 people altogether.  There are 4 forks and 4 knives.  There are 8 altogether. 

​Well done for working so hard this half term.  You have done really well.    Do something you enjoy on your own or with your family -  draw a picture, go outside for a walk, do a puzzle, play with your toys, do some cooking, dance to some music, read a book.

• Counting: Practise counting to 20 or 30 but don't start at 1.  Start counting at any other number e.g Start at 8 and count to 20.  Start at 12 and count to 30.  
• Writing: Use your sounds to write these simple words (dog, map, leg, pen).  Look at the pictures below to see which words you are going to write.  Each time, look at the picture, say the word e.g dog, say each sound in the word d - o - g  then write each of the sounds and say them as you write them d - o - g, finally say the word again - dog.  Remember there will be no finger spaces between each letter because you are writing one word.  There should be no capital letters. 

• You can write a sentence about a picture after you have written the words.  e.g It is a long leg.  Use your high frequency words and sounds.  Don't forget a capital letter to start the sentence, finger spaces and a full stop to finish.
• Keep active:  Play a game of hide and seek with your family. This is a great game to play, whatever the weather, because you can play it inside or out. Can you think of a great place to hide? 
• Keep talking:  Play a describing game with someone at home. Choose an object that you can see and describe it to the other player using three clues.  Use full sentences e.g. The object I can see has ....  It is near the.....

Today is a slightly different activity.  Today you have to choose which picture matches the sentence underneath.  First look at both pictures.  Talk about what is in each one.  Look at the sentence.  Are there any words you know (high frequency words)? 
Point to each word and say the word as you read it.  Say each sound in the word for the words you don't know. Decide which picture matches the sentence you have read.  ​

Have a go at making pairs.  You could collect some natural objects if you go out for a walk or you could use a group of your favourite toys or any objects you can find around your house. You could sort pairs of socks on washing day.  Use different numbers of objects and make pairs of the objects.  Remember pairs mean 2 of something.  How many pairs have you made?  Do you have any objects left over?  

R.E. Next Wednesday is a special day in the Church's calendar.  It is Ash Wednesday.  When we go to church on Ash Wednesday, a Cross is made on our foreheads with ashes to show that we want to grow more like Jesus. 
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent. Lent is a special time when we think about Jesus, how he grew in love and how we will try to grow in love, goodness, kindness and helpfulness like him.
Talk to someone in your family about what you could try to do during Lent to be more like Jesus.  We try to care more, share more and help each other. What could you do during Lent? Maybe you could help by keeping your room tidy.  You could be kind to your brother or sister and share your toys.

• Counting:  Play 'Don't say 20'.  This is a game for 2 or more players.  Take turns counting to 20.  The aim of the game is NOT to say 20.  On your turn, choose to continue the count with one, two or three numbers.  Then the next player has a turn.  e.g The first player counts 1,2.  The next player could count 3 or 3, 4 or 3, 4, 5.  Keep taking turns to count until someone says 20.  The winner is the person who doesn't say 20.  
• Writing: Use your sounds to write these simple words (net, hat, pin, bed).  Look at the pictures below to see which words you are going to write.  Each time, look at the picture, say the word e.g net, say each sound in the word n - e - t  then write each of the sounds and say them as you write them n - e - t, finally say the word again - net.  Remember there will be no finger spaces between each letter because you are writing one word.  There should be no capital letters. 

• You can write a sentence or more about a picture after you have written the words.  e.g The hat is red.  Use your high frequency words and sounds like you have been doing over the last few weeks.  Don't forget a capital letter to start the sentence, finger spaces and a full stop to finish.

Use full sentences to say which one you think does not belong.  I think number .... does not belong because.....  Ask someone you live with what they think.  You could even try saying I agree/disagree with you because ....

Literacy:   Practise your reading using the sentences below.  Look at the picture, talk about what you can see.  Are there any high frequency words you know?  Point to each word in the sentence and use your sounds to robot any words you don't know.  

Make another set of memory cards to play with.  Draw different representations of 6, 7 or 8 dots on paper (see the ladybirds below).  Just draw dots today, not pictures.  Cut the cards out.  Turn them over.  Turn two over at a time.  Look really carefully at the dots that you can see.  Are they the same?  Can you say why they are the same?  e.g They are both 8. Are they different?  Can you say why they are different?  e.g This one has 6 but the other one has 8.   

Make Your Own Small World
Set up an imaginative small world with mini figures (people and/or animals), building blocks, cars and your own trees and buildings made from paper and card. 

• Reading:  Read a book you enjoy or listen to a book on Myon www.myon.co.uk/index.html
• Counting -  Roll a dice.  Whichever number your dice lands on, bounce a ball that many times.  Eg if you roll a 6, bounce the ball 6 times.

  If you click on the purple cog in the top right hand corner you can change to a 0-9 dice.  
  Keep a tally of how many times you have bounced the ball altogether.  
• Writing: We are going to use our sounds to write some more simple words (pig, cat, ten, mud).  Look at the pictures below to see which words you are going to write today.  
• Each time, look at the picture (the last picture is mud). Say the word e.g mud, say each sound in the word  m - u - d  then write each of the sounds and say them as you write them m - u - d, finally say the word again - mud.  Remember there will be no finger spaces between each letter because you are writing one word.  There should be no capital letters. 

• If you want, you can write one or more sentences about the pictures after you have written the words.  e.g The pig is pink.  Use your high frequency words and sounds to help you.  Don't forget a capital letter to start the sentence, finger spaces and a full stop to finish.
• Keep active - Balloon ball      You can have endless fun playing with balloons; catch, tennis and seeing how long you can keep it off the ground. 
• Don't forget to keep talking - Would you rather?  Think of two things that are related e.g Would you rather have a pet panda or a pet zebra?  Then discuss the options with someone in your family.  Remember to use full sentences to give your opinion.  I would rather have a pet zebra because ....     Here are some more ideas - Would you rather read minds or be invisible?  Would you rather live in the sky or under the sea?  Would you rather have 3 arms or 3 legs?

Literacy:  Here are some more sentences for you to practise reading.  Look at the picture, talk about what you can see.  Are there any high frequency words you know?  Point to each word in the sentence and use your sounds to robot any words you don't know.  

Get a selection of toys (up to 10) and put them in a basket or box.  How many toys do you have?  Close your eyes and ask someone to take a toy out.  Can you say which toy is missing?  After you have taken one out, how many toys do you have now?  Is it more or less toys?  Try again with different toys.  What happens if you put one more toy in?  Can you spot which is the extra toy? Are there more or less toys now?

Create some home made instruments.  Make a guitar using an empty tissue box and rubber bands. Make shakers using toilet rolls (cover both ends with paper), empty milk bottles, cracker or cereal boxes filled with rice, lentils, beans or pasta.  Make a water xylophone - fill glass jars with different amounts of water, use a spoon to tap each jar - what sounds can you hear? Decorate your instruments once you've made them.
