2020-2021

Home Learning blog - Day 1 (05.01.21)

5/1/2021

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I hope you all had a lovely break over Christmas and had some well deserved rest.
I so wish we could all be together in school today, but hopefully we will be again soon!

Every day, I will post instructions for your lessons - so make sure you keep checking here to find out what to do.
Each day you will have:
  • Reading
  • a Phonics lesson
  • an English lesson
  • a Maths lesson
  • an activity to do in the afternoon - this could be RE, science, history, geography, art, DT, or PE.
I will try to make everything as clear as possible, but if you ever need anything explaining further please email:
info@st-agnes.towerhamlets.sch.uk
If there is work that I cannot mark online, it would be great if you could send pictures over to that email address too and I will share your successes on the blog posts.

So let's get cracking... here are your lessons for today:
Reading:

Just like in school, it would be great if you could spend about 15 minutes in the morning reading to someone at home. Even if you have read lots of your own books before, it is always good to reread these stories as you tend to understand them more the more you read them. If you are looking for some new books to read too, use MyOn just like you did in the summer terms or the Oxford Owl website. Here are the weblinks for both:

Phonics:
We are going to continue with Phase 4 for extra practise. Make sure you are super confident with these lessons. Join in when you are instructed to, just like you do in class with me.

English:
This week we are going to be looking at Acrostic Poems. You will get a chance to create your own and I look forward to seeing what you achieve.
Use this website to help you understand what they are.
www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zkxp2v4/articles/zksbf82

Can you create your own acrostic poem for the word 'TREE'?
Here are some words and phrases that I have thought of that relate to trees, you can use these or think of your own.

Maths:
Watch the lesson video on the White Rose website titled: Compare groups of objects.
whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-1/week-12-number-place-value-within-20/

Then complete the worksheet below:

I have also set a maths challenge for the week on Purple Mash. Feel free to complete this any time throughout the week. This is a challenge, so it isn't meant to be easy.
Try your best and I look forward to seeing your results!

Science:
This term we are looking at materials. Have a go at the 'guess the materials quiz' on PurpleMash. You need to listen or read the description given to you and decide which material they are describing.
I will be able to mark and comment on your work.

Have a great day of learning!!

Miss Kennedy
