2020-2021

Home Learning blog - Day 10

18/1/2021

Happy Monday Year 1!

I hope you all had a good weekend and managed to have some time to relax and play!
Last week I was so impressed with the quality of work sent over. Despite completing your learning at home, you are remembering everything you learnt during the first term in school and I could not be more proud!

Here are your activities for today:
Reading:
For the first three days of this week we are going to be looking at this book: Painting the Loft.

Look at the front cover and blurb.
We are going to make a prediction first, before we read the story.
  • What do you think will happen in this story?
  • Can you tell me why you think this will happen?

Next, practise these sounds and words, before you start reading.

Now you can begin to read the book. Stop on Page 5.
  • Why do you think Biff thinks the loft is like a tent?

Phonics:
You can so near the end of Phase 4 now. Make sure you are super confident with all of these sounds. If you are, really try and make your handwriting as neat as possible when you practise writing the words. Can you join your letters together?
Here is today's lesson:

English: To compose questions.
Here is the story for you to listen to again:

Today, have a go at writing some questions down for Max. What do you want to find out about him?
When you write a question, use one of these question words and don't forget to finish it off with a question mark (?).
  • where
  • what
  • when
  • why
  • how
Can you write three questions for Max?
Or to challenge yourself even further, can you write one question for each of the question words above?

Maths: To add by making 10.
Before watching the lesson, join in with the number bond song!
Now, watch and join in with the video and have a go at the learning activities explained in the video.

For the first activity, you can draw a ten frame on a piece of paper and play with a sibling or a parent at home.
Then have a go at the second activity. Choose two numbers to add together - make sure you complete the first ten frame before you start on the second!!

I have also set a number bond challenge on Purple Mash for you to try this week. Start on 'Challenge A'. Here you will shoot the balls to complete the number bonds. The number you are trying to make is shown on the left hand side of the screen. It starts easy, but does get quite tricky when you progress through the levels.

P.E.
Today, have a go at balancing. Balancing is something we forget to work on - I definitely need more practise at this.
Follow the lesson below and let me know how you get on. I know some of you also joined in with PE with Joe last Monday so feel free to do that too! Exercise is a great way of boosting our brain power!!

As always Year 1, please send your work in to me. This helps me help you! Here is the email address again:

Have a wonderful day everyone,
Miss Kennedy x
