Home Learning blog - Day 13

22/1/2021

Hello Year 1!

I hope you all had an enjoyable and relaxing day yesterday to celebrate the feast of Saint Agnes.
I can't quite believe we have now reached the end of our third week of learning from home. I love seeing the work you produce and send over. You are all working so hard and this will make such a difference when we can all be back in the classroom together again.

For one last day this week, here are your learning activities:
Reading:
Today, we are going to start looking a new book. It is called 'The Scarf'.
Just from the title, can you tell what season the book is set in? How do you know this?
What other items of clothing do you wear just in the colder months?

Then I would like you to have a look at the words below. Can you read these? Do you need to sound them out or do you just recognise them?

Phonics:
Phase 5, lesson 32.
Today the sound you are going to be looking at is the 'ou' sound. In school, we would say 'ou, ou, shout it out!' Try and remember the rhyme.
Remember to write the sound down as well as the words you are instructed to - just like you would in school.

English: To use spoken language to imagine and explore ideas.
Have a look at the images below. What is happening in them?
Discuss with an adult what is happening in the pictures:
  • How is Max feeling?
  • How are the Wild Things feeling?
  • How do their facial expressions show this?
  • What the music might sound like at the rumpus? Would it be loud or quiet?  Fast or slow? How would this help create the mood?
  • How would the characters be dancing?
Watch this video of the Wild Rumpus:
Today we are going to have some fun: Pretend you are at the Wild Rumpus with Max and the Wild Things. Have a good dance around your room or home to join in.
You could even try and make some music to go along with the party too! Find some pots and pans to hit!
I love dancing, I always have a little boogie in the morning to lift my spirits, how did joining in with the dance make you feel?

Maths: To subtract by counting back

Here is todays maths lesson. Join in when you are asked to and complete the questions throughout the lesson too.
There are two lessons titled 'to subtract by counting back' ensure you watch the first one today!

As always use this afternoon to complete any unfinished work. Remember to try to complete the number bonds challenge on Purple Mash too!!

Here is a story to listen to and enjoy to complete the week:

Click on the stars for little surprises and check out the lightbulb questions as you go too!
Think about why I may have chosen this story, is it similar to anything else we have read?

Have a wonderful weekend Year 1!
All the best,
Miss Kennedy x
