2020-2021

Home Learning blog - Day 16

27/1/2021

Good Morning Year 1!

We are half way into another week of home learning and I am so impressed with your continued hard work at home. Doing all the work set each day will help you so much when we can all be back together again in the classroom.

Here are your learning activities for today:
Reading:
Today we are starting to look at another book together. This one is called 'Tom, Dad and Colin'.

Look at the front cover:
Can you decide who you think is who? Who do you think is Colin?

Can you read the high frequency words in this story?
Said
Have
So
Were
Little
When
Can you read these quickly?

Phonics:
Today you are going to recap the sounds you have learnt so far in Phase 5.
If you need any extra practise of these sounds go to the Phonics Play website, choose one of the first three games, click on Phase 5 and choose the sounds you think you need to go over again.

English: To begin to design my own 'Wild Thing'.
Using plasticine/playdough can you make a 3D model of your own Wild Thing? We are going to start to think of ideas to write our own story. Think back to your fantasy world too, what creatures did you include there? What kind of Wild Thing are you going to create?

Once you have created your own Wild Thing, consider ways in which it will move, what sounds will it make, is it bigger or smaller than you? Discuss these points with an adult.

There is a good playdough recipe on this website if you do not have any at home. Don't worry about food colouring if you don't have any!

Here is a video of how to make an elephant out of playdough to get your creative juices flowing. You may wish to use some of these techniques in creating your own Wild Thing.

Maths: To subtract by crossing 10 (2)
Today you are going to continue with your learning from yesterday. Join in with the online lesson and complete the questions when instructed to.

RE: To recognise how the Priest helps us.
The parish family gathers to celebrate Mass with the priest on Sunday.

The Priest leads the parish family as they gather to celebrate Mass at church on Sunday. The Priest is a special person who has been chosen to do God’s work. Fr. Javier is our Priest!

As a gathering hymn is being sung, the Priest and the Altar Servers process through the Church to the altar.  The Priest, with everyone, makes the Sign of the Cross and says some words of welcome.

The priest wears different coloured vestments according to the time of the Church’s Year. Green is worn in Ordinary times.

Today, it would be great if you could role play the Priest, welcoming everyone when the parish family gather for Mass on Sunday, using the words:
“In name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”
“Amen.”
“The Lord be with you.”
“And with your spirit.”

Can you find some material that will help you look the part? Perhaps you could welcome your family into a room in your house and then say the words above.

Have a great day Year 1!

Miss Kennedy x
