2020-2021

Home Learning blog - Day 17

28/1/2021

Hello Year 1!

We are nearing the end of yet another week of home learning. Well done to you all who are staying very busy and on track at home. I can see all the progress you are making, I hope you can see it too!

Don't forget to keep sending in your work to:
Year1@st-agnes.towerhamlets.sch.uk

Here are your activities for today:
Reading:
We are going to continue to look at the book titled: Tom, Dad and Colin. You can find it on the Oxford Owl website:
www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/find-a-book/library-page/

Start to read the book:

On page 2 stop and think, where are the characters going?

On page 3, you may begin to learn who is who, were your predictions from yesterday correct?

Phonics:
Here is your next phonics lesson. Today you are going to learn the 'ir' sound. In school we would say "ir, ir, a whirl and a twirl'. Can you make up an action to help you remember this sound too?

English: To design and label my own Wild Thing.

Start off your lesson by listening to the story. Can you join in with any of the phrases yet?

Yesterday you created your own Wild Thing using playdough. Today, I would like you to draw a picture of your Wild Thing. Once you have drawn it and coloured it in, can you add labels to it? These will help you to describe your character. E.g. Sharp yellow teeth. Try and use exciting words!! Can you use any -er or -est words too?

Maths: To find and use related facts.
Here is your maths lesson for today. As always, listen and join in when you are asked to.

Art: To use materials to design and make products.

Can you find lots of different items of clothings around your house. You may want to find a wooly jumper, gloves, and a t-shirt. Do they have any repeating patterns on them? If the pattern is not visible, gently pull the fabric apart and look really carefully. Can you see any patterns now? You may see some overlaps.

Today, I challenge you to recreate these patterns, but how? My favourite way to do this is by weaving paper. Here is a little video to show you how to do it.
If you want to recreate these patterns in another way, go for it!! Remember to send through what you have done, I will share all of your ideas next week on the blog.
I wonder who will come up with a different idea?

Have a fabulous day everyone,
Miss Kennedy x
