2020-2021

Home Learning blog - Day 8

14/1/2021

Welcome back Year 1!

I hope you are all doing ok.
I am so impressed with all the work you have been sending in to me and completing on Purple Mash; you are working very hard at home!
If haven't yet sent in any of the written tasks or the maths please take a picture of your work and email it over to me at:
Year1@st-agnes.towerhamlets.sch.uk
This way, I can give feedback on what you have completed and you can ask any questions about the work too.

Here are your activities for today:

Reading:
Today, we are going to look at a new book. This book is called 'Stuck in the Mud'. It is on the Oxford Owl free e-library which you can find here:
www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/find-a-book/library-page/
Before you read the book, have a look at the front cover.
  • Do you recognise any of the characters? Have you seen them before?
  • Have you ever got stuck in the mud? What was it like?
Start to read the book.
  • On Page 3 They can hear a noise: “Baa! Baa” What could be making that noise?
  • Read to page 7. Who is stuck in the mud? What do you think the other characters will do to help?

Phonics:
Here is your phonics lesson:

English: To use spoken language to imagine and explore ideas
Use today to evaluate your fantasy setting, is there anything you would like to add. Maybe you could draw this in.
Tell someone at home all about your fantasy setting. Describe it as thoroughly as possible.

Which of these descriptions is better? Can you tell me why you think so?
My fantasy setting has an ocean and a forest. It is good.
OR
My fantasy setting has a blue ocean with waves that sparkle as they crash. There is also a dense forest with unicorns running wild.

Today, I would like you to write down some of the descriptive phrases you came up with while discussing your fantasy setting, Use this to practise what you are going to write tomorrow.

Maths: To add ones using number bonds.
This is a continuation from yesterday's maths lesson. Watch and join in with the video lesson, then complete the worksheet.
whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-1/spring-week-2-number-addition-and-subtraction-within-20/

Science: To distinguish between an object and the material it is made from
Today I would like you to go on a clothes hunt. We are going to be looking at the material that is used to make the clothes we wear.
Do you think the same material is used to make our summer clothes and our winter clothes? Why/Why not?
Try and find these items of clothing, look at the label inside and find out what material or materials are used to make them.
Can you add any other items of clothing to the list?

Happy learning Year 1,
Miss Kennedy x
