2020-2021

Home Learning blog - Day 9

15/1/2021

Hello Year 1!

Good morning and happy Friday!
We have made it to the end of our second week of home learning. How are you finding it?

As always, keep sending over your work to this email address:
[email protected]

Here are your activities for today. As it is Friday there will be time this afternoon to catch up on any work you haven't had the time to complete this week.

Reading:
Read the book 'Stuck in the mud' from the beginning to the end. Were you right in your answers yesterday? If not, what is the difference between what you thought and what happened in the story?
  • Turn back to page 5. Why did dad say to put Floppy on the lead? What do you think he would do if he wasn't on the lead? How do you know this?
  • On page 16 it looks like Biff and Chip are laughing, why do you think they are? Is Wilma laughing too? Why/why not?
Write down your answers in full sentences and in your neatest handwriting. Remember to use a capital letter to start each sentence, finger spaces between your words and full stops to show where each sentence finishes.

Phonics:
Here is the next lesson, it is another review lesson. You are all super at phonics but this will help you to really really know each and every sound we have already covered. Soon you will be learning new sounds.

English: To use descriptive language
Look back at the fantasy setting you created on Wednesday and read the descriptions you wrote yesterday too.
Today I would like you to describe your fantasy setting to me. I would love to see at least 5 sentences written in your neatest handwriting, each starting with a capital letter and ending with a full stop.
  • Can you use the suffixes -er and -est?
  • Can you use the word 'and' to join ideas together?
  • Can you join your letters together?
  • Can you use a simile? These are another way of writing comparisons, here are some examples:
    • The boy ran as fast as a lion.
    • The stars sparkled like diamonds.
Please send in your descriptions - I would love to read them.

Maths: To find and make number bonds.
Here is your last maths lesson of the week. Before you start, join in with the number bond song to 10 that we have listened to in class before.

Now, watch and join in with the lesson. Then complete the worksheet - if you need to copy out the worksheet please do so, this is a brilliant way of answering the questions if you do not have access to a printer.

Afternoon activities:
Here is another lovely story that you can read along with at home.

Just like last week, use this time to enjoy the story!

You also have the rest of the afternoon to complete any activities you have not managed to finish.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone, I hope you manage to have some fun and relax so you are ready for another week of learning from home!
If you need to contact me about anything this week or in the coming weeks, please do not hesitate to email and I will get back to you as quickly as I can.
