Wow! I cannot believe it is nearly the summer holidays. What a fabulous year it has been. Shall we recap?
We have done lots of counting...
Picture
Picture
Lots of creating...
Picture
Picture
Lots of writing...
Picture
Picture
Lots of investigating...
Picture
Picture
And we have had lots of fun!
But the hard work is not over just yet. This week you have your final home learning timetable jam packed with lots of fun activities. You will also find a range of tasks below to keep up with over summer. These will help prepare you for your move from infants to juniors!
Picture
Picture
Continue to read on MyON!
MyOn will be accessible to you ALL summer. Aim to read 20+ minutes a day. Use the 'browse' section of your library to find some of the weird and wonderful book categories including unexplained mysteries and inventions.
Picture
Keep up with TTRS!
Please continue to practice your 2, 5 and 10 times tables. These will come in super handy in Year 3 and beyond.
Picture
Picture
PurpleMash games!
You will find a HUGE range of mathematical games and activities on PurpleMash. Revise your knowledge of addition, subtraction, fractions, shape, time and more! Use the 'mathematics' button on the home page to find the topics above.
Picture
Oracy
Keep up to date with current news by watching/reading Newsround reports regularly. Report back to family or friends and tell them what you have discovered.
Picture
Picture
Spelling
Can you read these words? Can you say these words? Can you spell these words? Please continue to practice READING, SPEAKING and SPELLING the first 100, and then 200 high frequency words for KS1.
Picture
Picture
Of course the number of the week is 3. And it really is a magic number! But what can you tell me about the number 3?
Can you double it? What does it look like written as a word? Can you use it in an addition sentence? What is 3 x 5? What about 3 x 10?

Home learning (week beginning 29/06/2020)

29/6/2020

Hello Year Two! I hope everyone is keeping well. As we move into the month of July, I would like to start this weeks blog with a new quote of the month...
Picture
Between the pages of a book really is a lovely place to be! Not only now, but as we move into the summer months I would like to encourage all of you to continue reading. Challenge yourself to read a genre you wouldn't usually! That may be an adventure book, a fairy tale, a scary story or a non fiction science book!

I recently read 'Little Red Riding Duck' - a traditional tale with a bit of a twist! Try to find it on MyON by using the search bar and hopefully you'll enjoy it as much as I did!
WORD HUNT

The word hunt is back! Can you find all 6 words hidden in this picture? 👀

Who attempted to answer last weeks brain teaser? Here it is again... How many times does the number FIVE occur between the numbers 1-100?

And the answer is... 20! 5 appears ten times as the last digit (5, 15, 25 … 95) and ten times as a first digit (50, 51, 52 … 59).
And finally, I would like to share a story with you all. Kira has been busy creating this video and voicing the tale of 'The Sun and the Moon'.  How creative. Well done Kira⭐. I hope everyone enjoys listening to this lovely story...

Hello everyone!
To start this weeks blog, I would like to share some of the fabulous work I have received from members of our Year 2 class!

Below is a piece of art that Rose has created to represent the creation story. She used various items of clothing and a camping mat to make this masterpiece. How creative! I love all the different shades of blue that create a wave effect. Well done Rose!

Erin and Opal have also been keeping very busy! They both had their science caps on last week as they completed the Y2 investigation into the suitability of a range of materials for a sailing boat. They both made great predictions and concluded that plastic is the best material to make a boat from. Great job girls. Keep up the hard work!

How are you all? Did you enjoy the space blog?

Reading at home - MyON
Picture
You should all now have your MyON log ins! MyON is our new online library service. Instead of taking a book from our classroom book shelf using your ZPD, you can simply read one at home! I suggest reading a book from the ‘recommended’ section of the library page as these will suit your ZPD, but do explore the webpage! There are new books added regularly and I encourage you to read a mixture of both fiction and non-fiction.

I can log in to see what books you have read and how much time you have spent reading. I will be giving gold stars on the blog next week for those who are reading daily for 20-30+ minutes! ⭐⭐⭐

When you open Busy Beats, start with an empty beat. It will automatically be recording your sound. Click on one of the ripplers in the middle of the screen. This will allow your sounds to play on repeat. Then start experimenting! Use the sound buttons from the tabs at the top and drag them into place. I suggest using sounds from 'synths' and 'samples'.

If you would like to hear your beat over, simply press the blue square button in the bottom right corner to stop the recording. The green triangle will allow you to play it over!

The video below will show you how I navigated my way around the app to create my own unique sound! I hope you all have as much fun as I did😃

Welcome back to the blog Year Two!
How are you all? I do hope that everyone had a lovely half term break.

As we enter month of June, I have a new quote of the month to share with you all. Whilst it is strange not being able to take books out from our classroom library, I must say how proud I am of everyone for continuing to read books at home or online. If you have not already accessed, the Oxford Owl eBook library is a fantastic resource with lots of free eBooks from a wide range of genres. You will find the link to the website on the righthand side of this page.

KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK YEAR TWO! ⭐

This quote comes from a famous author named Dr Seuss. Do you recognise that name? Some of you may have read his stories. Here is a link to my favourite Dr Seuss story... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ItPdeUnu5UI.

Home learning (week beginning 18/05/2020)

18/5/2020

Hello Year Two!

I hope you all had a restful weekend.  It was wonderful to catch up with some of you over the phone last week. I am thoroughly impressed with how busy everyone has been. You all continue to make me very proud with how hard you have been working on your home learning activities. Keep up the great work⭐ ⭐ ⭐

I also know that many of you have been enjoying the weekly brain teasers🧠 ! So here is another picture... Can you find all of the 6 hidden words?👀
As always, last weeks answers will be at the bottom of the blog.

Weekly spellings
Please do not worry if you cannot print it out, just copy them down onto a piece of paper!
Picture
NUMBER OF THE WEEK
What can you tell me about the number...
Picture
How many tens and ones? Can you write 17 as a word? Is it odd or even? Can you double it? What is 5 more? How about 5 less? Can you tally 17? How would it look as an array?
Free time
Did anyone have a go at the non-screen activities from last weeks blog? I had a go at making my own secret code. I wonder if anyone in Year Two can crack it... HINT: The numbers are related to the letters of the alphabet.
Picture
Here is the list again! I would love to see your attempt at any of these activities. You can email me by contacting [email protected] and leaving my name in the subject!

Home learning timetable
Below is this weeks home learning timetable. You will find all of the relevant links/resources attached
below.

Note to parents/carers: Again you may notice some gaps in the way I have scheduled the maths tasks. This is because some of the tasks require additional equipment/large groups of people to complete. This week I have also attached the answer booklet that accompanies the Statistics activities.

Home learning (week beginning 04/05/2020)

4/5/2020

Bonjour Year 2👋
How are you all? I hope everyone is enjoying the home learning activities. I have been thoroughly impressed by the work I have seen on PurpleMash. Keep up the wonderful efforts!

As we enter the month of May, I have a new quote of the month to share. Although we are missing the classroom very much, we must take inspiration from Percy. I am very proud of you all, please continue to persevere whilst learning at home.

As these weekly blogs develop I am still trying to understand what works best for everyone, so I have made some small changes/additions to the activities starting with spelling!

Weekly spellings will now look very similar to those you usually receive for homework. The table below lists the words for you to look, say, cover, write and check. Do not worry if you cannot print it out, just copy them down onto a piece of paper!
Picture
NUMBER OF THE WEEK
Just like we do in class, what can you tell me about the number…
Picture
Is it odd or even? Can you make this number using coins? What is 10 more? How about 10 less? Can you use 55 in a multiplication number sentence? What does it look like in word format?

BRAIN TEASER
I haven't forgotten Year 2! This week I have a bit of a riddle for you.. The answer will be revealed in next weeks blog.
Picture
Week 2 brain teaser answer:
Some of you may have realised I tricked you. There are actually two possible answers.

The hexagon has 6 sides and 6 vertices. The pentagon has 5 sides and 5 vertices. The square has 4 sides and 4 vertices. Therefore, the next shape in the pattern must have one less side/vertex than the square… A TRIANGLE. Your answer could have been A or B.

That is all for now. Take care Year 2,

Miss McKenna ❤️
