Happy Wednesday Year 1!I miss you all so much, it is so lovely receiving your emails and I really appreciate you asking how I am getting on too. It makes me feel very special. Year1@st-agnes.towerhamlets.sch.uk We only have today and two more days until half term, this is the last push before we can relax for a week. Here are your activities to complete today:
Phonics: Today you are reviewing what you have learnt recently in the lesson here: English: To retell a story in sequence. We are writing the next part of the story today! Again, lets start off today with listening to the story again. Now, heres a video to explain the next part... Maths: To compare objects to 50. Watch the next maths lesson on: whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-1/spring-week-6-number-place-value-within-50/. Then have a go at the worksheet below. Remember, if you don't have a printer you can always copy out the worksheet and answer the questions there. RE: To know that the parish family spend time together after Mass. At the end of Mass, the priest gives everyone God’s blessing and tells them to “Go in Peace.” We all say: “Thanks be to God.” Look at the picture below. People often like to stay and share time together and sometimes the parish family gather together for refreshments.
Whilst looking at the pictures, answer the questions below:
Can you explore St Catherine’s Church website and find examples of the parish celebrating together? www.stcatherinebow.church/# Have a wonderful Wednesday everyone! See you tomorrow, Miss Kennedy x Hello Everyone!!
I hope you all managed to get outside and enjoy the snow yesterday! I certainly did.
To start off today I would like to say just how fantastic the start of your stories are, I have been blown away with your creativity and I cannot wait to see what you come up with next!! Remember to send your stories to me, either at the end of each day or you can send the whole story through once you have completed it on Thursday: Year1@st-agnes.towerhamlets.sch.uk Let's get cracking with your activities today:
Phonics: Here is the next lesson in Phase 5. Today the sound is 'e' and in school we would say 'e, e, he, she, be' to help us remember. Join in and have fun! English: To retell a story in sequence. We are going to write the next section of this story. But before that, it may be a good idea to listen to the story again to remind us what comes next. To make sure we don't miss anything out, we need to re-read what we wrote yesterday and then go from there. Maths: To find one more and one less. Here is the link to find the lesson, it is the second lesson titled one more and one less. whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-1/spring-week-6-number-place-value-within-50/ Continue with the worksheet from yesterday, here it is again if you missed it: You will also find a place value maths challenge on Purple Mash from today to complete by the end of the week. This focuses on tens and ones within numbers. Enjoy!! Design and Technology: To explore a range of products. So today, we are going to start thinking about creating a cape/costume so you can act out your story at home. You are going to need an old (white) t-shirt to do this on Thursday, but today we are going to design it!! On a plain piece of paper, you can draw an outline of your cape and then add in the details you want. You could add in labels to make your design even better! Have a terrific Tuesday Year 1! Miss Kennedy x Good Morning Year 1!
This is the last week of learning from home before half term and you get a week to relax and recharge. You have all shown such dedication to your learning and I am so proud of you all.
I am so excited to read the stories you create this week!! Year1@st-agnes.towerhamlets.sch.uk So, without further ado, here are your activities for today:
Phonics: We are still going on Phase 5. Today you are looking at the 'a', sound. Like some of the other sounds we have looked at recently this letter can make two sounds - a short 'a' sound in apple and a longer sound 'a' in acorn. In school when we see this sound in Phase 5 we would say 'a, a, Amy has an acorn'. Join in and have fun with the lesson. English: To retell a story in sequence. The day has come Year 1, we are going to start writing our stories - I am very excited. I love seeing you all become authors and you always surprise me with novel and creative ideas. Your stories always turn out better than mine, and I hope these ones will be the same. Let's start the lesson, with reading the story again. Today we are just going to look at the first two boxes of our plan and write a couple of sentences to begin our story. Try to use all of the discussions you have had and work you have done over the last couple of weeks to feed into your story this week. Maths: To find one more and one less. Here's the link to the maths videos for this week: whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-1/spring-week-6-number-place-value-within-50/ Today you are doing the first lesson titled 'One more and one less.' Watch and join in with the lesson and answer the questions when directed to. This worksheet is for today and tomorrow, so you are only going to complete the first part today! PE: Here is a picture of the lesson to complete today and there is also a youtube video attached to further explain. Have fun Year 1!! Have a magical Monday Year 1!! See you tomorrow, Miss Kennedy x Happy Friday Everyone! You have made it to the end of another week of learning from home. Do you find you are getting into the swing of things more now? How does home learning make you feel? Let me know how you are finding everything today when you send over your work: Year1@st-agnes.towerhamlets.sch.uk Here are your activities for today:
Phonics: Phase 5, 'i'. This is another letter than can make two sounds. Today we will find out that the letter 'i' can make a short sound like in 'sip', but also a longer sound in words such as 'find'. In school, when you see this sound, we would say 'i, i, find the child'. Watch and join in with the lesson here: English: To sequence and plan my own story. Today I would like you to look back at your work from this week, specifically your plans. Can you tell your own story from the plan you have created? Practise telling your story using your plan. Is there anything you would like to edit or add to it? Use today’s time to do this. Next week we are going to use our plan to write our very own story! Maths: To represent numbers to 50. Here is your next maths lesson. Watch and join in with the lesson found here: whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-1/spring-week-5-number-place-value-within-50/ Here is the worksheet to complete, remember only answer the questions once you are instructed to during the lesson. As today is Friday, you have time this afternoon to catch up on any work you may not have been able to complete throughout the week. Here is a story to watch and listen to too. Enjoy! Have a wonderful weekend Year 1, see you next week. Miss Kennedy x Welcome back Year 1!
I miss you all lots, but being able to see your work everyday and to see how well you are all doing makes me so very happy!
Here's the email address again: Year1@st-agnes.towerhamlets.sch.uk Here are your activities to complete today:
Phonics: Phase 5, sound 'o'. This letter can make two sounds, it can make a short sound 'o' like in hot, or a slightly longer sound 'O' in words such as go. In school, when we see this sound, we would say 'o, o, so, no, go'. Join in with the lesson here: English: To sequence and plan my own story. Today we are going to continue and complete boxing up your own story. Have a look at the video below where I show you my finished plan.
Now its your turn, can you complete your own plan for your version of the story?
Maths: Tens and ones. Make sure you watch and join in with the lesson found here: whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-1/spring-week-5-number-place-value-within-50/ Have a go at the questions on the worksheet, answer them when instructed to throughout the lesson.
Have a great day Year 1. Remember to try and do something that makes you happy or laugh today!! See you tomorrow, Miss Kennedy x Good Morning Year 1!
We are half way through another week of learning from home! Give yourself a HUGE pat on the back! This week is mental health week and I would like you to take some time this week to think about how you are feeling. Remember, there is no right answer to this and you are allowed to feel however you do. Lots of people at the moment feel a little bit upset because they cannot see their friends, others are finding it difficult to motivate themselves to do their home learning. How do you feel?
I would also encourage you to think about what makes you happy and try to do it every day. Everyday I try and dance around my kitchen; I turn up my music and dance like nobody is watching for a good 10 minutes and it makes me feel silly and happy! Give it a go and let me know how you get on - can you get all those you live with joining in? Here are your learning activities to complete today, don't forget to send your work to me!! Year1@st-agnes.towerhamlets.sch.uk
Phonics: Phase 5, lesson 40. This is a review lesson. You will practise all the sounds you have learnt, if you think you need more practise with any of the sounds go to the Phonics Play website and get some extra practise in. www.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources English: To sequence and plan my own story. Below you will find my boxing up of 'Where the Wild things Are.' Boxing up is a way you can sequence and plan a story. Have a look at them image and then watch the video.
Today you are going to start thinking about how you are going to sequence your own ideas into this template to plan your story.
We are going to focus on the first 4 boxes today and finish it off tomorrow. Here is a video and a picture of mine to help you! My main character is me, and I'm wearing a pig suit - use your ideas from yesterday. I am at home causing mischief, just like Max was. I then go to where the unicorns are because I was sent to bed without eating anything.
Now it's your turn!
Try to draw all the details you wish to include in your story so you do not forget to pop them in when the time comes. Maths: To count forwards and backwards within 50. Watch and join in with the lesson found here: whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-1/spring-week-5-number-place-value-within-50/ Complete the questions when you are instructed to. Remember, if there is a tower of cubes this represents 10. Have fun!! Geography: To know that maps show features and places. Here is a map of a park. Can you spot all the different features?
Have a look at this treasure map. Can you see the journey you would need to be go on to get to the treasure?
Today, I would like you to first discuss Max’s journey in Where The Wild Things Are. Can you name all the features he sees? First it's the forest, then he sees the ocean. What does he see next?
Can you draw a simple picture map based on Max’s journey? Can you add symbols to show places just like the maps here have done too? Have a wonderful day everyone! Miss Kennedy x Hello Year 1!How are you all getting on? I really do love seeing all the work you send to me at: Year1@st-agnes.towerhamlets.sch.uk Being able to see all your had work makes me so proud of you all! You have continued to show great commitment to your learning at home and I could not be happier. Keep it up! Here are your activities to complete today: Reading:
Phonics: You are going to look at the sound 'u'. You may think we have seen this sound before in Phase 2, however, this letter can make two sounds. Today you will see that 'u' can make the sound in 'umbrella' but also in 'unicorn'. We say 'u, u, musical unicorns'. Join in with the lesson here: English: To generate ideas for my own story. Continuing from yesterday, think about these questions to help you generate ideas for your own story. What made him want to go home? How did he get back? What made Max want to go home, is this similar to some feelings at the start of the story? How will you decide to go home in your story? How did the story end? How will you end your story? Try to link this back to the start of the story too. Once you have thought about these points, I would like you to design a costume you will wear in your story. You are going to be 'Max' in your very own story. Use this template or draw your own. Maths: Numbers to 50. Make sure you watch the lesson found here: whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-1/spring-week-5-number-place-value-within-50/ Answer each question when you are instructed to. RE: To understand that Jesus is the most special person in the Parish family. When the parish family gathers to celebrate Mass, we have an important part to play by listening to God’s Word. The priest (or deacon if there is one) reads the Gospel, the stories of the life of Jesus, who is the most special person for the parish family. We stand to listen to the Gospel. One of the stories we hear at this time of year is about Mary and Joseph taking Jesus, as a baby, to be presented in the Temple. Mary and Joseph made many journeys to the Temple. We remember this story on 2nd February, the Feast of the Presentation of Jesus. Candles are blessed and carried on this day to remind us that Jesus would bring light and joy to the world. Read a simple version of the story here, this is from God’s Story 2 page 62 based on Luke 2: 23 - 40, A visit to the Temple.
Have a brilliant day Year 1! Miss Kennedy x Good Morning Year 1 and happy Monday!Welcome back to another week of home learning!! Last week, I was so impressed with your Wild Thing creations. Here are the ones that have been sent in, can you spot yours? Remember, please send you work to me via this email address: Year1@st-agnes.towerhamlets.sch.uk Here are your activities for today: Reading:
Phonics: Today's new sound is 'ue'. We say the rhyme, 'ue, ue, blue glue'. Can you make up your own action for this to help you remember the sound? I am really looking forward to learning all your actions when we return to school. English: To generate ideas for my own story. To start our thinking today, watch the video in the learn section on this page: www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zmqtnrd Now, begin to generate ideas for your own story. Think about: What magical thing will start the adventure? What happens in the original story? How else could you start your adventure? How will you get to the setting? How does Max get to the Wild Things? How could you get there? What will happen when you get there? What happens when Max reaches the Wild Things? What will happen in your story? Talk about these things with an adult at home. You could draw pictures to help you remember these things or write sentences to answer the questions above. Record your ideas in your own way, how you think is best! Maths: To count to 50 by making 10s. Find today's maths lesson here: whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-1/spring-week-5-number-place-value-within-50/ Join in and the have a go at making 5 groups of 10. You could use objects from around your house to help you! Cutlery is great for this, or you could draw pictures to illustrate it too. When you count them can you count in 10s up to 50? P.E. Have a go at creating your own movement sequence, this comes into gymnastics! There is video below to explain this further for you! Have a wonderful day Year 1!! Miss Kennedy x Happy Friday everyone!!
I can't believe we are at the end of January, and one whole month into you all learning from home. I hope you can all see how much progress you have made in this short space of time, you are persevering and believing in yourselves through a difficult time, and you are achieving so much!
Keep it up Year 1, hopefully we can all see each other again in the classroom soon! Let's finish the week strong! Here are your activities to complete today:
Phonics: Here is the last phonics lesson of the week. You are introduced to the Phase 5 sound 'ie'. This is a diagraph that makes the 'I/igh' sound on words such as 'pie' and 'tie'. In school, we say the rhyme, "ie, ie, tie the pie'. What actions would you do with your hands to help you remember this sound? Join in with the lesson. If you want to have a play with this sound, go to the Phonics Play website, and play one of the first three games, remember to click on 'phase 5' and then find the 'ie' sound, or any of the other sounds you have learnt this week. www.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources English: To write a character description. If you would like to listen to the story again, choose one of the clips below:
For the past couple of days, you have been generating ideas and creating your own Wild Thing. I love the pictures I have seen so far!! You are all so creative, I cannot wait to read what you come up with today. Today you are going to use what you have already been working on, and write a character description. Here you will look back and the picture you drew yesterday and read the labels you added. Then I would like you to put those labels into full sentences. For example, the label 'Sharp yellow teeth' would read in a sentence: 'My gigantic Wild Thing has sharp yellow teeth.' You could extend this even further by saying: "My gigantic Wild Thing has sharp yellow teeth that are sharper than a knife.' I would also like you to think about if it has a special ability? Some of you created a unicorn like character, are these able to fly? Don't forget to give your Wild Thing a name!! For an extra challenge (I know you all like these!) When you write your character description, can you begin it in a way that appeals to the reader? For example, you could write: You will not believe your eyes! This unknown creature is truly remarkable. Let me tell you why. It has... You may find it useful to talk through your description with an adult first before you write - remember this is what we do in school!! Don't forget those capital letters, finger spaces and full stops! Maths: To compare number sentences. Today you are finishing the topic of 'Addition and Subtraction within 20'. Here is your last lesson: whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-1/spring-week-4-number-addition-and-subtraction-within-20/ Catch up afternoon: As always Year 1, you have some extra time this afternoon to complete any work you may not have managed to finish throughout the week. If you have completed all of your work, listen to the story found on this link: www.booktrust.org.uk/books-and-reading/have-some-fun/storybooks-and-games/A-hole-in-the-bottom-of-the-sea/ Have a wonderful day and weekend Year 1! Miss you all so much, Miss Kennedy x Hello Year 1!
We are nearing the end of yet another week of home learning. Well done to you all who are staying very busy and on track at home. I can see all the progress you are making, I hope you can see it too!
Don't forget to keep sending in your work to: Year1@st-agnes.towerhamlets.sch.uk
Phonics: Here is your next phonics lesson. Today you are going to learn the 'ir' sound. In school we would say "ir, ir, a whirl and a twirl'. Can you make up an action to help you remember this sound too? English: To design and label my own Wild Thing. Start off your lesson by listening to the story. Can you join in with any of the phrases yet?
Yesterday you created your own Wild Thing using playdough. Today, I would like you to draw a picture of your Wild Thing. Once you have drawn it and coloured it in, can you add labels to it? These will help you to describe your character. E.g. Sharp yellow teeth. Try and use exciting words!! Can you use any -er or -est words too? Maths: To find and use related facts. Here is your maths lesson for today. As always, listen and join in when you are asked to. whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-1/spring-week-4-number-addition-and-subtraction-within-20/ Art: To use materials to design and make products. Can you find lots of different items of clothings around your house. You may want to find a wooly jumper, gloves, and a t-shirt. Do they have any repeating patterns on them? If the pattern is not visible, gently pull the fabric apart and look really carefully. Can you see any patterns now? You may see some overlaps. Today, I challenge you to recreate these patterns, but how? My favourite way to do this is by weaving paper. Here is a little video to show you how to do it. If you want to recreate these patterns in another way, go for it!! Remember to send through what you have done, I will share all of your ideas next week on the blog. I wonder who will come up with a different idea? Have a fabulous day everyone, Miss Kennedy x |
